These cookies are Traditional Puerto Rican shortbread cookies. They are all the rave especially around the Holidays in Puerto Rico!
The Polvorones are dusted shortbread cookies usually with nut pieces in the dough (almonds, walnuts, or pecans) and the Mantecaditos are topped with sprinkles or nuts. I opted out the nuts for this particular Recipe, but you can definitely add nuts.
Both of these cookies are insanely delicious, with their fluffy buttery texture! Give this recipe a try...I guarantee you won't be able to eat just one!

Ingredients:
-1-1/2 cups flour (My secret is half bisquick and half All purpose flour)
-1/2 cup granulated sugar
-1/4 cup vegetable shortening
-1/4 cup salted butter
-1 egg yolk
-1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-1 teaspoon almond extract
-sprinkles, nuts, powdered sugar (if desired for topping and dusting)
Directions:
In a mixing bowl cream the vegetable shortening and butter together, slowly add the sugar as it mixes. Then add the yolk, and extracts and keep mixing until everything is combined.
Lastly add the flour while mixing on low until the flour is incorporated, and the mixture turns into a dough ball that has a play dough consistency.
Divide your dough if desired and use food dye to make the cookies festive in different colors.
At this point you can mix in the nuts if desired.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees farenheit.
Grab a baking sheet and line it with parchment paper.
Ricas! Las hice hacen unos dias con pedasos de nuez y azucar en polvo. Le puse menos harina porque no tenia bisquick. Gracias por el video en español
