Christmas Hot Cocoa Bombs

Updated: Jan 6, 2022

Hot Chocolate is so Delicious and perfect around this time of year. Making the Hot Cocoa mix yourself is so easy, and making it into these adorable and delicious Hot Cocoa Bombs is even Better!

These cute Snowmen Hot Cocoa Bombs are the Perfect Recipe to make with your kids, and the best thing is that they are a drink and treat in one! Hot Cocoa Bombs are an edible ball made with a Chocolate shell, they are filled with Hot Cocoa mix, Marshmallows, Sprinkles, Peppermint, Candies, etc. I made my Hot Cocoa bombs into cute snowmen, so they are perfect around Christmas time with a side of Homemade cookies; but you can decorate them in many different ways for different occasions.

Ingredients:

*Hot Cocoa Mix

-1 cup Ghiradelli 100% Cocoa Powder Unsweetened

-1/2 cup Granulated Sugar

-1/2 Brown Sugar

*I USE 3 TABLESPOONS of COCOA MIX PER COCOA BOMB

*I USE 1 CUP of UNSWEETENED ALMOND MILK PER COCOA BOMB

*Chocolate Shell

-10 oz. Ghiradelli Vanilla Melting Wafers (Melted)

-1/2 cup Orange Candy Melts (Melted)

-1/2 cup Chocolate Chips or Brown Candy Melts (Melted)

*Fillings

-1/3 cup Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips

-1/3 cup Mini Marshmallows

*Add other fillings you want such as peppermint or sprinkles into your Hot Cocoa Bombs

*THIS RECIPE MAKES 6 HOT COCOA BOMBS

Tools:

-Silicone Sphere Mold

⬇These are the Molds I used⬇

Directions:

To make the Hot Cocoa Mix, combine the Cocoa Powder with the Granulated and Brown Sugar by whisking them together. Then set it aside for now.

*You can make this Hot Cocoa Mix in advance and save it in a jar or air tight container, this can be stored at room temperature for months.

Melt the 3 different melting wafers -White, Orange and Brown into separate microwave safe bowls in 30 second increments. I did 30 seconds 3 times for each one to insure the wafers don't burn and that they melt thoroughly.

To get started, I am going to make the decorations that i'm going to be adding onto the Hot Cocoa bombs first. Since I am making cute Snowmen, I have orange candy melts for the carrot nose and brown for the eyes and mouth. I place the melted orange and brown wafers into separate baggies so that I can pipe the decorations.

In a sheet pan lined with parchment paper, I begin piping elongated triangles for the carrot nose with the orange candy melts. Then with the brown, I pipe large circles for the eyes and smaller dots for the mouth pieces. Once I am done piping all the decorations, I place these in the freezer to set for about 10 minutes.

To make the bombs, I start adding a few spoonfuls of the Ghiradelli White melted wafers into the sphere molds, swirling it around to cover the entire sphere evenly and letting any excess drip off.

*I recommend using the Ghiradelli Brand Melting Wafers because they melt so smoothly, and are a thinner consistency than candy melts which makes it easier to work with. They also harden a lot better than Candy melts do, which is a must for Hot Cocoa Bombs.

After the sphere molds have been evenly filled with the White melted wafers, I put them in the freezer to set up completely for about 10 minutes. After they have set up completely, I carefully remove them from the molds.

I fill one half of the sphere with 3 tablespoons of Cocoa Powder, a few Chocolate Chips, and Mini Marshmallows (You can fill yours with whatever you want.)

I grab the empty sphere half and place it quickly over a griddle or pan that is on Medium heat just to melt the edges quickly and place it over the other half that is filled with Cocoa and Marshmallows to seal them together. Hold them in place for a few seconds to insure they stick together. If there is gaps between the 2 spheres fill them with more of the melted white wafers, and smooth it out using your finger.

Now it's time to add the decorations! I'm using a bit of melted white wafers I added into a baggy as a glue to add the decorations. I pipe a dot of the melted white chocolate where I want to place the nose, and hold it in place for a few seconds until it sets. I do the same where I want to place the eyes and mouth. Once I'm done adding the decorations I let these set for a few minutes.

I fill up my Hot Chocolate mug with Hot Almond Milk, and I place the Hot Cocoa Bomb on top. Watch the Hot Cocoa Bomb melt away and open up with all the Cocoa powder and Marshmallows floating around, give it a good stir and Enjoy! So Fun and So Delicious!

*I am using 1 cup of Unsweetened Almond Milk per Hot Cocoa Bomb.
